One Piece just achieved a huge milestone. After 18 years of being behind, the English One Piece dub produced by Crunchyroll has caught up with the ongoing Japanese release of the "Egghead" story arc.
Toei Animation announced the return of the animated adaptation of the "Egghead" story arc for One Piece at One Piece Day Dallas –Card Game Celebration– in Dallas, Texas. In addition to new "Egghead" episodes set for April, the One Piece series also announced new English dub episodes for Crunchyroll in late March. "Egghead Part-1" will cover Episodes 1109-1122 of the anime TV series and will be the first time the One Piece English dub has caught up with the ongoing Japanese release. One Piece Staff Call Series 'The Largest English Dubbing Effort in Anime History'
Emily Fajardo, the English voice director for the One Piece anime since "Wano Country," released a statement about this monumental achievement. According to Fajardo, this massive milestone of nearly two decades of work involved approximately 1,500 actors and crew members to make it happen. Her complete statement can be read below:
"18 years in the making, the English dub of One Piece has officially caught up to the Japanese version of the main story. It has been one of the biggest honors of my life to spend the last 3 years sailing toward this milestone with everyone, first as one of two ADR Directors, and as the sole series ADR Director for the last year and a half. For 3 years straight, I've had the privilege of working with this cast and crew 5 days a week, and witnessing their unbelievable talent and passion firsthand.
What this team, past and present, have accomplished together, especially those who have been on board since the very beginning, is nothing short of staggering. It took a 'Grand Fleet' of nearly 1500 actors and crew members, stretching across nearly 2 decades, to reach this massive milestone-the largest English dubbing effort in anime history. We could never have made it this far without the unwavering support and patience of the One Piece fanbase. Thank you all for being the most loyal crewmates we could ask for, and for inspiring us every day with your love for Oda's legendary story.
I couldn't be prouder to be a piece of this historic team effort and am brimming with excitement to be at the helm for the adventures ahead. To Laugh Tale we go!"

The English dub release of One Piece catching up with the Japanese release is an incredible achievement, considering where the anime used to be when it made its first splash in North America. Fans blamed the infamous One Piece English dub by 4Kids from 2004-2007 for significantly hindering the series' reach when its Shonen Jump brethren, Naruto and Bleach, were exploding in the United States. After the 4Kids dub came to an end, Funimation took over the English dub rights to One Piece on April 12, 2007. Funimation picked up where 4Kids left off with new episodes of "Skypiea" airing on Cartoon Network, while faithful translations of the early episodes were released on home media. As the industry changed, such as Crunchyroll merging with Funimation, One Piece moved from TV to streaming with new episode premieres subtitled in English with the English dub a few steps behind -- until now.
One Piece is available on numerous streaming services, including Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu. New and previous manga chapters are available via Viz Media and the Manga Plus app. "As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer ‘Red-Haired’ Shanks," the series’ official description reads. "But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary 'One Piece,' said to be the greatest treasure in the world…"
