In het Zweedse Borlänge wonen aardige mensen, als je de slogan van de stad mag geloven. Maar de aanwezigheid van een grote groep Somalische immigranten wordt niet door iedereen gewaardeerd. Zodoende besluit idealist Patrik Andersson een groep Somalische jongeren te werven voor zijn bandyteam – een variant op ijshockey. Acht maanden voor het wereldkampioenschap van 2014 wordt het nationale bandyteam van Somalië gevormd. Een noviteit: nog nooit nam een Afrikaans land deel. De betrokkenen hopen dat het initiatief bijdraagt aan integratie van de spelers. Eventuele prestaties in Siberië, waar het toernooi plaatsvindt, zullen wellicht leiden tot meer begrip van de gemeenschap. Het leidt tot cartooneske beelden van Somalische vrienden die ver van hun moederland voor het eerst gaan schaatsen, en droogkomische gesprekken met buurtbewoners die hun twijfels uitspreken: Somaliërs zijn traditiegetrouw lui van aard. Ondertussen volgt de camera de zoektocht van de kluchtige Andersson naar sponsoren. Telefonerend vanuit een zwembad is hij soms meer bezig met het genereren van media-aandacht dan met zijn pupillen. Wanneer de jongens niet komen opdagen voor een training, is hij echter doortastend: er moet gepresteerd worden. Het is tekenend voor de licht spottende ondertoon in de film. Worden de jongens onthaald als helden?
